Government Representations

Over the years, SGCCI has made a deep impact on the socio-economic scene in the Southern Gujarat Region. By making the representations to persuade the government at local, state and central level to resolve the issues relating to Central Excise and Customs, Income Tax, Commercial Tax, Law and Order and such other vital areas of Trade and Commerce. It has come up a long way, though a lot needs to be done because Industry, Trade and Commerce and Governance are dynamic and change is inevitable. SGCCI takes utmost care in representing the cause of its members and people of the region before competent authorities. Timely representations and suggestions to the Ministers and the concerned Government Departments for protecting and enhancing the interest of the business community have become important functions at SGCCI.

GFRRC (Global Fabric Resource and Research Centre)

Certificate of Origin

SGCCI is authorized by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and the Director General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics vide letter no.14(1)74EAC dated 14th May 1974 to issue Certificate of Origin in prescribed Performa to exporters as per article 11 of International Convention relating to Customs.

Certificate of Origin is essential document for Exporters as a proof certifying that the goods are of Indian Origin. The office bearers of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry have been nominated to authorize to sign the Certificates of Origin as and when requested and such certificates are validly accepted by custom departments as well as by the Consulate General of over-seas countries. Every year the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry is issuing around 7000 Certificates of Origin to Exporters of this region.

 

Academic Courses

SGCCI is running professional courses and training programs of short and medium duration in a well equipped class rooms through highly qualified professionals. The popular courses are pertaining to Import -Export Management.

Ladies Wing

To build acquaintance among the lady members and to carry on with the activities to promote women entrepreneurship, SGCCI has formed a Ladies Wing. It organizes knowledge sharing programs, conducts training courses, provides assistance to start a new business, offers guidance to secure financial assistance from Banks and other financial institutions and advises on various government incentives for women entrepreneurs.

Permanent Settlement Commission

(Kayami Samadhan Panch) The commission was established in 1987 with District and Sessions Judge as the Chairman assisted by a committee of eminent Lawyers, Social Workers, Representatives of the Women Organizations, President and Members of the Chamber.

Golden Jubilee Endowment Trust

To commemorate the Golden Jubilee year of the Chamber, SGCCI started a Trust in June 1990 with an objective to recognize and appreciate outstanding contributions by individuals and institutions with an annual award for excellence in various fields such as Exports, Import Substitution, Productivity, Research and Development, Energy Conservation, Social Welfare etc.

NRG Centre

Gujarat is now a global family. “Non-Resident Gujaratis” Foundation is born out of the philosophy to bond these families by the Gujarati spirit and to grow collectively through love and mutual care. Vision of NRG Centre : To create a world class Gujarat by optional utilizations of knowledge, skills and connection of NRGs’. The Government of Gujarat has chosen SGCCI to establish NRG centre as a facilitation point for visiting NRGs’ in the South Gujarat Region with an objective to provide comprehensive assistance to NRGs’.  

Publication

To connect and to keep its members well informed about important Government Notifications, Trade Notices etc. SGCCI publishes “Samruddhi”, a Bi-monthly House Bulletin. It is devoted to core Industrial /Trade Sector of the region and has proved to be a valuable medium of communication.

Library

SGCCI has a well organized Library with Books and Journals including leading Periodicals on various aspects of Trade and Commerce. The Library also has a well equipped class room to conduct short term and long term courses on Import – Export as well as other important aspects of Business Management. Library also consists of directories of database from different Associations and Chambers.

Global Business Centre

The SGCCI aims to promote the Trade and Industry of its region globally. Apart from being the regional Chamber, SGCCI has set its eyes on promoting the core strengths of Surat in the International Market. To achieve this objective, SGCCI has developed close association with the Consulates of various Countries in India.

To enhance the possibilities of mutual trade and to facilitate its members, SGCCI has developed a special cell and has already set up Business Corners for Trade with America and Indonesia. Several other countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Russia and others are actively considering the possibilities of utilizing this Facility.

South Gujarat Productivity Council (SGPC)

South Gujarat Productivity Council was launched by The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry on 25th May 1992. SGPC is 49th council in india affiliated to National Productivity Council, New Delhi.

The aim and objective of the South Gujarat Productivity Council is to create quality consciousness amongst manufactures and workers by arranging seminars and workshops. The council also offers consultancy services to the industry for total quality management, adoption of efficient production methods and energy conservation programs.

Surat Citizens’ Council Trust

It was felt that a separate body should be formed to take up all social issues affecting the citizens. Deteriorating public utility services and other problems affecting the public in daily life required intensive efforts to lessen the difficulties of the people. Hence, the Surat Citizens’ Council Trust was established on 27th march 1990.

Citizen’s Council consisting of members from Social Organizations, Chamber and Political Parties etc., was formed under the trust to handle day-to-day matters. The Citizen’s Council has stood the test of time on several occasions. The council is housed in its own premise.
